Former Pack standout Mike Edwards joins Nevada radio team

Ex-Union member joins John Ramey in the booth for Nevada football broadcasts

RENO, Nev. – Former Nevada football standout Mike Edwards will return to the Wolf Pack this season, joining play-by-play voice John Ramey in the radio booth on the Wolf Pack Radio Network. Edwards, a three-year letter winner and Union member in the 1990s, will serve as a color analyst.

The Wolf Pack Radio Network – owned and operated by Wolf Pack Sports Properties, the school's multimedia rights holder – will carry every minute of Nevada football this season as the Jay Norvell era debuts Sept. 2 at Northwestern.

"Mike was a highly accomplished football player for the Pack and is a proud alumnus of the Union," said Andy McDowell, general manager of Wolf Pack Sports Properties. "His experience playing at the college and professional levels, his time coaching high school players and his familiarity of the Nevada team provide a great foundation of knowledge and insights he will share with our listeners."

Edwards, earned first-team All-Big West Conference honors at offensive line in 1996 and 1997 and started every game in his junior and senior years. He was named a team captain in 1996, one of the first junior offensive lineman to earn the honor, and was selected again in 1997. He earned the Striker Award in both of his final seasons for consistent dominating play and helped the Wolf Pack to a pair of Las Vegas Bowl appearances in 1995 and 1996.

He was selected to play in Blue Grey College All-Star Game and spent time on NFL rosters with the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders. He played two seasons for the Berlin Thunderbolts in NFL Europe and started on the offensive line and also played one season in the XFL with the Birmingham Bolts.

A native of Auburn, Calif., Edwards has taught and coached at Reno High School for the past 14 years. He met his wife Crystal while both teaching at Reno High and the couple has a son, Kane (6) and daughter, Bianca (3).
