Day two results
TUCSON, Ariz. - On day two of the Mountain West Championship, the Nevada men's golf team showed vast improvement from day one and jumped one spot in the standings to seventh.
The Wolf Pack fired a 4-under par team score of 284 on Saturday, 12 strokes better than its opening round yesterday. Nevada's 284 was tied with UNLV for the second-best team round of the day and helped the Pack move up one spot into seventh place. With 18 holes remaining, Nevada has a chance to secure a top five finish with a solid final round on Sunday. Colorado State moved into the lead after posting the best team round of the day with an 8-under 280. The Rams will take a two-shot lead over Boise State and UNLV into the final round.
Nevada's strong play on Saturday was attributed to three of its players shooting rounds under par, including two rounds in the 60s. Junior Grant Booth moved up 15 spots on the individual leaderboard and is just outside the top 10 after he fired a 3-under 69. He is at 2-under par for the tournament and is seven shots behind the leader. Booth committed a double bogey on No. 4 but collected six birdies during the remainder of his round, including four on the back nine. Through 36 holes Booth ranks in a tie for second in the field with 10 birdies.
Senior Nick Fuller also moved up a few positions with a 1-under round of 72. Fuller posted a fairly clean round by making four birdies and converting 11 pars. He is at even par overall and is tied for 21st place in the 55-player field. Perhaps the biggest impact today was felt from junior Corey Eddings who jumped 19 spots on the leaderboard and carded the best round of the day for the Wolf Pack with a 4-under 68. Eddings, who was the runner-up at last year's championship, had just one bogey during his second round and is tied for 29th place.
Junior Kaleb Gorbahn and sophomore Travis Fredborg both shot rounds of 76 on Saturday and are in 44th and a tie for 46th, respectively. Brian Humphreys of Boise State is the 36-hole leader with the final 18 holes to be played tomorrow. He leads by one shot over John Oda of UNLV.
