STOCKTON, Calif. - In a matchup that featured two of the Mountain West's most feared pitchers, the Nevada softball team fell to San Jose State 2-0 on Friday night in its opening game of conference play. Senior McKenna Isenberg took the circle for the Wolf Pack (14-11, 0-1 MW) and went the distance, striking out seven batters in the game for the seventh time this season.

Isenberg, who after Friday ranks second in the MW with 89 strikeouts on the year, battled throughout the entire game with the Spartans' (18-9, 1-0 MW) Katelyn Lindford, who leads the conference with 101 punch outs. The two pitchers set the tone early on in the game as each recorded a strikeout in the first inning.

With the Spartans taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning, Isenberg continued to fight and keep the Pack within striking distance by bouncing back in the fourth frame and striking out two batters in the inning. In the bottom of the sixth, San Jose received an insurance run to take a 2-0 lead into the top of the seventh.

Nevada was unable to spark another comeback as Lindford struck out the side in order to seal the win for the Spartans. Junior Aaliyah Gibson collected the Pack's lone hit of the game, recording a single to right field in the first inning.

The Wolf Pack will be back on the field on Saturday to take on San Jose State in the second game of the three-game series with the Spartans. First-pitch for that matchup is slated for 12 p.m. PT.
