Day One Results
TUCSON, Ariz. - The Nevada men's golf team teed off on the spring season Monday morning and afternoon with the first two rounds of the National Invitational Tournament (NIT), hosted by Arizona.
The Wolf Pack struggled through the first 36 holes and currently sit in 16th place in the 16-team field with one round to go. Nevada as a team carded a 303 for the first round and shaved six strokes off its second round score to post a 297. Of the 16 teams in the field, only six found themselves under par through 36 holes. Iowa State narrowly leads Arizona State for the team lead as the Cyclones will take a one-shot lead into Tuesday's final round.
Junior Grant Booth paced the Wolf Pack lineup on Monday as he finished the day as the highest ranked individual on the team. Booth made three birdies and three bogeys in the morning session to card an even par 72 to open the tournament. He followed that up in the afternoon with three more birdies, but a double bogey on No. 18 forced him to a 2-over round of 74. He sits in a tie for 36th in the field of 88.
Sophomore Travis Fredborg, who finds himself in a tie for 54th entering the final round, collected seven birdies throughout both rounds. Fredborg, however, also had a double and triple bogey on his scorecards today that landed him with rounds of 75 and 74. Juniors Corey Eddings and Kaleb Gorbahn posted uncharacteristic rounds in the low 80s in the morning, but each took six strokes off their game in the afternoon with rounds in the mid-70s. Freshman Stephen Osborne, who is playing in his first collegiate event, carded rounds of 76 and 81 in his debut and sits in 86th place.
Nevada will conclude the NIT with the final round on Tuesday.
