Caroline's double-double leads Nevada past UC Irvine 76-65

Nevada sets school record with 8-0 start

IRVINE, Calif. (AP) Jordan Caroline poured in 24 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and handed out four assists to help Nevada remain unbeaten with a 76-65 victory over UC Irvine on Saturday night.

Kendall Stephens hit 5 of 7 from beyond the 3-point arc and scored 17, Caleb Martin added 15 points and twin brother Cody Martin scored 11 for the Wolf Pack (8-0), who have won six straight - four this year - on the road.

Eyassu Worku had 13 points to pace the Anteaters (4-6), while Tommy Rutherford scored 10.

UC Irvine led by five points before Martin buried a 3-pointer late to pull the Wolf Pack within 31-29 at halftime.

Stephens hit back-to-back 3s four minutes into the second half to give Nevada 40-37 lead and the Wolf Pack stayed out in front from there.

Nevada connected on 10 of 22 (45.5 percent) from long range, while holding the Anteaters to 4-of-15 shooting (26.7 percent) from beyond the arc.

Nevada improved to 8-0 after its 76-65 win at UC Irvine (4-6) which is the best start in the NCAA I era for the Wolf Pack.
 
Nevada plays at Texas Tech (6-1) on Tuesday at 5 p.m. PT.
 
Nevada is one of 13 undefeated NCAA I schools.
 
Head coach Eric Musselman won his 60th game at Nevada and is 60-21 in his third season leading the Wolf Pack.
 
Nevada trailed at halftime for the first time this season, 31-29.
 
Jordan Caroline posted his third double-double of the season and 17th of his career finishing with game highs in points (24) and rebounds (13).  The 13 rebounds is the high for a Wolf Pack player this season.
 
Caroline has back-to-back 20-point games and four on the season.
 
Caroline and Cody Martin (11 points) have scored in double figures in all eight games.
 
For the fifth time this season Nevada had four players score in double figures; Caroline (24), Kendall Stephens (17), Caleb Martin (15) and Cody Martin (11).
 
Stephens tied his season-high with five made 3-pointers, connecting on 5-of-7 from behind the arc.  His 17 points is his third double figure scoring game of the season.
 
Nevada defeated a conference preseason favorite for the third time; Idaho (Big Sky), Rhode Island (Atlantic 10) and UC Irvine (Big West).
 
The Pack is 4-0 on the road and at home. 

Nevada has won its last seven true road games.
