HONOLULU – Junior
Caleb Martin scored a game-high 22 points to lead Nevada (6-0) past Hawai`i (3-1) 67-54 on Friday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu to keep the Wolf Pack unbeaten at 6-0. The Pack has won its last four games by double figures and host Illinois State (3-2) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a game that is part of the Mountain West-Missouri Valley Conference Challenge.
The Pack are 6-0 for the first time since the 2006-07 season when the team started the year 7-0 and posted a 29-5 record on the season.
Nevada trailed 21-19 with 6:10 left to play in the first half when
Caleb Martin took over scoring 13 of the Pack's final 15 points of the first half as part of a 13-4 run. The Wolf Pack led 34-24 at the half and never trailed the rest of the game.
UH closed within four points 46-42 with 8:54 remaining in the game. With the Pack up 47-42 junior guard
Lindsey Drew scored Nevada's next eight points on a field goal and a pair of three-pointers that pushed the advantage to 55-46 with 5:43 to go. The Rainbow Warriors never threatened the rest of the game as Nevada won 67-54.
The Martin twins scored over half the teams' 67 points as
Caleb Martin netted 22, his fourth game of 22 or more points this season and brother
Cody Martin finished with 16 points as the duo finished with 38 points.
Cody Martin led the Pack with seven rebounds but also had three assists, three blocks and three steals in 38 minutes.
Caleb Martin had six rebound as the two combined for 13 of the teams 35.
Jordan Caroline score in double figures for the six time this season as he totaled 13 points and grabbed five boards in 32 minutes.
Brocke Stepteau was the only UH player in double figures with his 10 points.
