DAVIS, Calif. - University of Nevada freshman Julien Evrard advanced to the quarterfinals of the A singles at the UC Davis Invitational that began today at Marya Welch Tennis Center on the UC Davis campus. Eight members of the Wolf Pack team are competing at the three-day event to begin the fall season.

Evrard won both of his matches by scores of 6-3, 6-4. The quarterfinal win was over Saint Mary's Calvin Jordan and the round of 16 victory was over Mert Zincirli of San Francisco. Saturday he takes on Alexander Wallace of Portland in the quarterfinals.

Junior Robert Margitfalvi won his first match of the day 7-6(4), 7-6(5), taking both tiebreakers over Vincent Rettke of Gonzaga. Margitfalvi dropped his second match of the day 6-2, 7-5 to Matthiue Garcia of Portland.

Transfer Alex Turc lost his round of 32 match 6-1, 6-1 to Brandon Sutter of Stanford. Turc lost his consolation match to Portland's Pierre Garcia 6-2, 6-2.

Senior Mile Cilic fell in three sets to Saint Mary's Manuel De Luis 6-7 (6), 7-5, and 6-3. Cilic received an injury walkover and bye to advance to the consolation quarterfinals

Four members of the squad competed in the B singles draw on day one; Peter O'Donovan, Sandro Lena, Jonathan Aremon and Kostya Nesterenko.

O'Donovan won 6-2, 6-1 in the round of 32 over Sacramento State's Christopher Clayton. He fell in his next match 6-3, 6-3 to Max Pham of UC Davis.

The other three Pack players lost in the round of 32 and dropped to the consolation bracket. Lena and Aremon dropped three-set matches in the consolation bracket. Nesterenko downed Pacific's Lance Ngo and received a bye to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Pack had two doubles teams in the A draw. Evrard and Cilic lost 8-7 and Margitfalvi and Nesterenko lost 8-5. The consolation bracket gets underway on Saturday.

O'Donovan and Turc fell 8-4 in the B doubles draw and will play on Saturday in the consolation bracket.

With four teams in the C doubles bracket, a round robin format will be used. Aremon and Lena won 8-7 (5) in their first match over the duo from Sacramento State.
