The University of Nevada basketball program believes in the importance of creating a strong culture on and off the basketball court. They constantly look to arrange team functions that allow the players, coaches, and support staff to bond on a level beyond the hardwood.
With the players back on campus and the school year underway, the entire program headed to an indoor cycling studio. This team activity was not only meant for cardio purposes, but to also get the guys to hang out away from campus.
With the class being the first spin workout for a majority of the players and staff, many did not know what to expect. But, as soon as the music started blasting and the instructor, Danyelle Musselman (Coach Musselman's wife) explained how the class would be held, everyone began having fun with the activity, while also pushing each other to work harder.
"With it being many guys' first spin class, a lot of them had no idea what to expect," said senior guard
D.J. Fenner. "By the end everyone seemed to have had fun pushing each other to get through the workout."
For 45 minutes the entire Nevada basketball program was taken out of their comfort zone, that is on the basketball court and into a spin class. And by the end of the class, even with it being a gruesome cardio workout, each and every person had a smile on their face, while laughing and talking about the class.
"I wasn't sure what I was getting into going into the class, but walking out, I understood the purpose of it," said senior guard
Marcus Marshall. "It was one of many team activities that has strengthened our team's culture."
As a staff, it is a priority to put together different team activities to build stronger bonds within our program and this cycling session was a enormous step in the right direction.
