RENO, Nev. - As the final month of summer begins, fall sports programs return to Nevada ready to train. Of those teams, the Wolf Pack soccer program starts its training camp today in preparation for its home exhibition game less than two weeks away on Friday, Aug. 12 against Pacific.
Here are some quick facts about the upcoming season:
• Co-head coaches Erin Otagaki and Casey Tate embark on their first season as head coaches after previously being assistant coaches for the team.
• Assistant coaches Parrissa Eyorokon and Ashley Hosford start their first season with the Pack.
• Forward Angel Meriwether returns after sitting out the 2015 season due to injury. She led the team in goals, assists and points during her rookie season.
• Starting goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos enters her senior season. She started in all 19 games last year and ranked fourth in the Mountain West in saves.
• Aug. 15-21 the team travels to Honolulu, Hawaii where they open the regular season against Gonzaga (Friday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. PT) and play Hawai'i (Sunday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. PT).
• Nevada opens the home portion of the regular season Thursday, Sept. 1 against UC Irvine. The game will kick off Mackay Stadium's 50th year and the team's 16th in the stadium.
• Overall, Nevada loses three starters from last season, but eight members of the starting lineup return.
• Six newcomers (five freshmen and one transfer) join the Pack's 2016 roster
• The final game of the regular season, and thus Senior Night, is Friday, Oct. 28 against rival UNLV, with Governor's Series points on the line.
Season tickets for the 2016 soccer season are available and are just $60 for adults, $45 for seniors (65 and older) and $55 for youth (8th grade or younger).
