HONOLULU, Hawaii - Nevada played a close game against Hawaii on Sunday but lost late in the second half 2-1 to round out the Outrigger Soccer Classic Series No. I.

At the 16:06 mark, Nevada fouled Hawaii in the box resulting in a penalty kick. The Rainbow Wahine's conversion was good and the team took the lead over the Wolf Pack 1-0.

The Pack did not waste time trying to close the gap. Seven members from the team took shots and totaled 10 shots in the game, three on goal. Similar to Hawaii's PK, Nevada received a free kick in the second half at the top of the box. Sophomore Rylee Peterson took the kick and launched it on goal to knot the game up at 1-1 in the 75th minute.

It was an evenly matched game as the two teams statistics almost mirrored one another. With a similar number of corner kicks, shots, shots on goal, fouls and even yellow cards. With less than five minutes to go, the Wahines scored the game winner on a breakaway to go ahead 2-1.

Nevada improved since Friday's game in terms of shots going from four to 10. Kelsey Quintos made one save and the Nevada defense kept the pressure high resulting in many Hawaii shots going wide.

"It's disappointing the team lost. Rylee had a great shot and we were all excited to score. It was unfortunate that it fell apart at the end, but we'll go back and look at film and work on it in practice," said co-head coach Erin Otagaki.

Nevada will return to Reno for its home opener against UC Irvine on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.
