RENO, Nev. – Nevada’s 2016 season opener, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 3, has been moved to Friday, Sept. 2, at newly renovated Mackay Stadium. Kickoff between Nevada and Cal Poly is set for 6:30 p.m. PT.
The Wolf Pack eyes its season opener with excitement, returning 15 starters and a core group of last year’s team that won the 2015 Arizona Bowl. Additionally, Mackay Stadium will have a number of new amenities this season, including chair-back seating, loge boxes and a stadium club. Entering its 50th season anniversary, Mackay Stadium is currently being renovated for the 2016 campaign.
This will mark the second straight season Nevada has opened its campaign with a weekday game. The Wolf Pack downed UC Davis, 31-17, on a Thursday last season. The Wolf Pack is 60-45-3 in season-opening games all-time.
Nevada will be playing Cal Poly, a member of the Big Sky Conference in the FCS, for the 10th time in program history and for the first time since 1998. The Wolf Pack leads the series history, 6-3. Nevada last played the Mustangs on Nov. 14, 1998, posting a 63-0 shutout victory at Mackay Stadium.
If the Pack’s season opener is not selected for television broadcast, the game will be broadcast digitally and streamed online via the Mountain West Network, powered by Campus Insiders.
Season tickets are currently on sale for the upcoming season. Due to high demand in the newly renovated sections, seats are limited. Call (775) 348-PACK for additional ticket information.
