Day one results

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - Following day one of action at the 2016 Mountain West Women's Golf Championship, Nevada sits in seventh place.

The Wolf Pack struggled out of the gate earlier this morning committing three triple bogeys through five holes and had to play catch up from there. The middle portion of the opening round saw a fair amount of red of the scorecard but also a few doubles. Nevada finished with a team score of 310 (+22) and sits ahead of Boise State and Wyoming in the standings. No. 17 UNLV leads the tournament by one stroke over No. 22 San Diego State. The Rebels carded a 7-over 295 on Monday.

Both senior Caryn Khoo and sophomore Celyn Khoo led the Pack with rounds of 3-over 75. For Celyn she had jumped up as high as second place after birding No. 7 and No. 9, making the turn at even par. However a double bogey on the 18th to end her round set her back a couple of shots. For Caryn she had a few blemishes on the scorecard but managed to sink a couple of birdie putts to complete her opening round.

The three, four, five players for Nevada had rough outings on Monday, all playing in their first conference championship. Junior Hannah Gregg birdied back-to-back holes on 13 and 14 but shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 29th in the field of 45. Freshman Chaithra Katamneni carded an 81 and is tied for 37th. Fellow rookie Kaitlin Collom rounds out the list of Pack participants in 43rd after shooting an 83.

Heading into round two there is a three-way tie for first place among Katrina Prendergast (Colorado State), Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir (Fresno State) and Georgia Lacey (San Diego State). All three were the only players in the field to shoot under par, totaling 1-under rounds of 71.

Collom will tee off at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning to begin the second round for Nevada. Live scoring is available at GolfStat.com
