Day Two Results
EL MACERO, Calif. - The Nevada men's golf team put together a much improved second round Saturday afternoon at the El Macero Classic, hosted by both Nevada and UC Davis.
The Wolf Pack combined for a team score of 298 in the second round, 18 strokes better than its round one total of 316. With that improvement Nevada leaped into the top-10 in the 15-team field with one more round still to be played. Texas Tech continues to lead, however its lead has been significantly diminished. TCU posted the team low round of the day at 288 to jump into second place. The Horned Frogs trail the Red Raiders by six shots heading into Sunday.
Red numbers were more prevalent out on the course for Nevada as the Pack collected 13 birdies, eight more than yesterday. Junior Nick Fuller led the charge sinking four birdies of his own. Fuller shot the low Wolf Pack round of the day, a 1-over par 73, which jolted him into a tie for 22nd. He came in at 1-under after the first nine holes, struggled on the back side, but made birdie on No. 18 to close out his round.
Sophomore Corey Eddings also birdied his final hole of the afternoon to post a 2-over round of 74. Eddings was fairly consistent on the day, making 14 pars. He currently sits in a tie for 30th in the 90-player field. Fellow sophomore Grant Booth got off to a quick start as he sat at 2-under through the first five. A double bogey on No. 6 however set him back a couple of strokes. He also birdied the par 5 18th to complete his round of 75.
Freshman Travis Fredborg collected back-to-back birdies to begin his round but struggled with the remainder of his front-9. He finished with a 4-over 76 and is in a tie for 61st. Sophomore Jooho Lee also posted a score of 76 after birding two of the four par 3's. Sophomore David Hinitz, who is competing as an individual, began his day in the top-five but tussled through the second round, shooting a 77. He is tied for 16th place.
