ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of Nevada (5-14, 1-4 MW) men's tennis team rallied from a 3-1 deficit but were unable to close out the match falling 4-3 at #60 New Mexico (15-13, 2-2 MW) in a Mountain West match played at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium tonight. The loss dropped the Wolf Pack to 5-14 on the season and 1-4 in MW play while the Lobos improved to 15-13 and 2-3 in conference action.
Nevada concludes the weekend MW road trip at Air Force (6-15, 1-3 MW) on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT.
The deciding point came down to a three-set match in the #2 singles between Nevada's Andrew Poustie and Bart Van Leijsen of New Mexico. Poustie won set two 6-4 after falling 6-3 in the first. Van Leijsen scored a 6-4 win in the third set to clinch the 4-3 victory of the Lobos.
UNM earned the doubles point winning on courts 1 and 3 to take the 1-0 lead. Van Leijsen and Sabatka knocked off Poustie and Robert Allan 6-4 on court 1. Rodolfo Jauregui and Michael Tran defeated the Pack's #3 doubles team of Ryan Andrada and Aaron Breust 6-4 to clinch the point.
The Lobos Ricky Hernandez-Tong scored a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Allan in the #4 singles match and it was 2-0. Robert Margitfalvi got the Pack on the scoreboard with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court 5 to make it 2-1.
Jauregui got UNM within a point of victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sandro Lena in the #6 singles match. Nevada won the next two matches to tie the score at 3-3. Ryan Andrada won 6-4, 6-4 over Hayden Sabatka on court 1. Mile Cilic's 6-4, 7-5 win in the #3 singles match, setup the winner take all on court 2 that was won by the Lobos.
