BOISE, Idaho - The University of Nevada (5-13, 1-3 MW) men's tennis team snapped a five-match losing skid knocking off #64 Boise State (14-9, 3-2 MW) 4-3 at the Appleton Tennis Center today. The victory was the first in the Mountain West for the Wolf Pack this season as they are now 1-3 in conference play and 5-13 overall. The Broncos stand at 14-9 and 3-2 in the MW.
Next action for the Pack is Friday at New Mexico at 4 p.m. PT. followed by a match at Air Force on Sunday.
Nevada won the #2 and #3 doubles matches to earn the team point. Mile Cilic and Robert Margitfalvi blanked Lewis Roskilly and Thomas Tenreiro 6-0 on court two to get the day started. BSU's #1 team of Kyle Butters and Toby Mitchell won on court 1 6-2 over Robert Allan and Andrrew Poustie. Ryan Andrada and Aaron Breust clinched the point on court 3 with a 6-2 victory over Brian Foley and Abe Hewko.
Margitfalvi's three-set victory on court 5 clinched the Pack victory and snapped the losing skid. After dropping the first set 6-2 he rebounded to win the second set tiebreaker 9-7. He cruised in the third set 6-1 to earn the fourth point needed to secure the win.
BSU's Kyle Butters defeated Allan 6-1, 6-3 in the #4 singles match to tie the score at 1-1. Pack freshman Aaron Breust scored a 6-1, 6-4 win on court 6 and Nevada led 2-1. Mitchell won 6-2, 7-5 over Nevada's Cilic on court 3 and the match was tied once again at 2-2.
Poustie put the Pack up 3-2 with a 6-1, 6-3 victory on court 2. Andrada fell 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in the #1 singles match and it was 3-3 setting up the exciting finish on court five where Margitfalvi prevailed in three sets.
