Day One Results

STANFORD, Calif. - Sophomore Grant Booth paced the Nevada men's golf team to open play at The Goodwin, hosted by Stanford at Stanford Golf Course.

"We got off to a slow start in the cold morning temperatures," head coach Jacob Wilner said. "We did a nice job of staying patient to be able to salvage our opening round. The scores are better in the afternoon wave and we are looking forward to our opportunity tomorrow."

The Wolf Pack, which was one of the first teams to tee off this morning, combined for a team score of 293 (+13) and is in a tie for 15th after the opening 18 holes. Nevada is in a six-way tie for 15th along with Fresno State, Brigham Young, Southern Methodist, Arizona and the nation's No. 1 team, USC. UC Davis was the only team in the field of 26 to go low on day one, carding a 3-under 277. The rest of the top-five includes Stanford's A and B team, UNLV and Saint Mary's.

Booth birdied twice on his way to shooting a two-over 72 and is in a tie for 42nd in a massive field of 138 competitors. Freshman Travis Fredborg finished right behind Booth with a round of 73, good for a tie for 52nd. Fredborg began his day with a shaky back-9 but birdied three holes to come in under-par on the front-9.

A pair of sophomores, Corey Eddings and Jooho Lee, each carded opening rounds of 74 and are tied for 66th. Junior Nick Fuller rounds out the list of Pack participants and sits in a tie for 104th after shooting a 7-over 77. Fuller suffered seven bogeys on the back-9 but finished with a strong blemish free front side.

The low score of the day belonged to Luke Vivolo of UC Davis. Vivolo compiled six birdies and just one bogey on his way to shooting a 5-under round of 65. He leads by just one stroke over second place Aaron Wise of Oregon heading into the second day. Of the 138 participants, only 18 came in under par.

Eddings will be the first to tee off for Nevada on day two, getting started at 12:55 p.m. Live scoring for the entire tournament will be available on GolfStat.com.
