ROSEVILLE, Calif. - The Nevada women's golf team put together its best round of the week to earn a second place finish at the Sacramento State Invitational Tuesday afternoon from Sierra View Country Club.

"Overall we played okay today. Chaithra finished really well and got up and down for par on her last three holes. Kaitlin finished birdie-birdie which kept us in it for sure," said head coach Kathleen Takaishi. "I'm proud of the way the team fought this week. We didn't play our best overall but our freshmen played very well. This should give them a ton of confidence leading up to our conference championship."

The Wolf Pack edged third-place Santa Clara by one stroke and finished 18 shots off the pace set by tournament champion San Francisco. The Dons were the only team in the field of 15 to compile three rounds under 300. Nevada's 301 team score on day two is its best of the tournament and finished with a three-round total of 907 (302-304-301).

As the final round unfolded freshmen Chaithra Katamneni and Kaitlin Collom found themselves in striking distance to claim the individual title. Ultimately it was Vanessa Ha of San Francisco who prevailed for the individual crown, defeating Northern Colorado's Amanda Meyers on the second hole of a sudden death playoff.

Katamneni recorded her first collegiate top-five finish after tying for fourth place in the 80-player field. She fell four strokes shy of the leader with a three-round total of 224 (75-74-75). Collom ended her tournament run right behind Katamneni with a total score of 225 (73-77-75) to earn sole possession of eighth place. She birdied three holes on Tuesday, including No. 17 and No. 18. It is Collom's first collegiate top-10 finish.

Sophomore Celyn Khoo recovered after shooting in the upper 70s in the first two rounds to card a two-over 74 in the final round and notch a top-15 finish. Junior Hannah Gregg tied for 28th, senior Caryn Khoo tied for 33rd and freshman Michelle Duan, who was competing as an individual, retained the 49th spot.

Nevada is next in action when it goes to defend its title at the Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz. April 4-5 at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.
