RENO, Nev. - After winning three of its five games at the Kajikawa Classic last weekend, the Nevada softball team travels to the DeMarini Desert Classic for five games from Friday, Feb. 19 to Sunday Feb. 21.
The Pack is coming off a 3-2 weekend that featured a 5-3 win over Indiana, its first win over a foe from one of the power five conferences since a 6-4 victory over Utah on Feb. 10, 2013.
The Wolf Pack has all-time winning records against three of its five opponents that it will face in Las Vegas this weekend with Portland State being its most frequently played opponent. Last season, Nevada went a combined 3-1 against UTEP and Portland State with the Pack taking on the Vikings three times.
GIBSON LEADS OFFENSE AND DEFENSE IN TEMPE • Sophomore
Aaliyah Gibson had arguably one of her best weekends as a member of the Wolf Pack softball team this past week in Tempe where she hit .615 (8-for-15) with a home run, two doubles and four runs scored.
• Her home run in the bottom of the seventh against Wisconsin cut the Wolf Pack deficit to one, 3-2, and was her first career round tripper.
• Against Nevada's three opponents from the power five conferences, Gibson went 5-for-8 with a home run and three runs scored.
• The Austin, Texas native also threw out two runners at second base from center field and is now two more assists away from matching her total from 2015.
• Gibson was also successful in her only stolen base attempt on the weekend.
SWEET, REDINGTON LEAD NEVADA TO 5-3 WIN OVER INDIANA • Senior
Megan Sweet went 2-for-4 with three RBI and sophomore
Chase Redington threw 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for the save in Nevada's 5-3 victory over Indiana on Feb. 12.
• Redington moved into a tie for fourth on the all-time saves list with four career saves.
• The win marked the Wolf Pack's first victory over a team from one the power five conferences since a 6-4 win over Utah on Feb. 10, 2013.
• It was also the Pack's first win a school from the Big 10 since a 6-4 victory over Northwestern on Feb. 13, 2010.
BOLINGER RECORDS FIRST CAREER WIN • Freshman pitcher
Brooke Bolinger pushed the Wolf Pack above .500 for the weekend with a complete game effort in a 2-1 win over East Carolina on Feb. 14.
• The win gave the southpaw her first career victory in the Silver and Blue.
• The first weekend saw Bolinger go 1-1 in 18.2 innings pitched with strikeouts and a 3.00 ERA.
• The Yucaipa, Calif., ranks ninth in the conference with a 3.00 ERA and third with 18.2 innings pitched.
