Nevada began the game with the lead, holding Fresno State a few points off. With 13:11 on the clock, a dunk from the Bulldogs' Bryson Williams tied it up at 10 before the home team took the lead. Nevada held tight with Fresno State, but it would be a three-pointer from Fenner followed by a Caroline layup that would give Nevada the lead back, up 24-22 with 6:14 left in the half. Fresno State didn't stay down, however, retaking the lead with 3:19 remaining. The two teams continued to exchange blows in a first half that saw five ties and five lead changes, but it was the Bulldogs that would go in up by one at the half, 33-32.

The second half opened up with Marshall and Oliver hitting back-to-back threes to take the lead, but Fresno State came right back to go up again. Marshall continued to heat up through the second half, helping Nevada to stake a 48-41 lead with 14:41 left in the game. Nevada held onto the lead until six minutes to go when Fresno State's Jahmel Taylor hit a layup and the and-one, putting the Bulldogs up 69-66. Just like the end of the first half, the two teams exchanged ties and leads all the way until the end.

With just under a minute to play, the two teams were locked up at 71 with Fenner at the line. Draining both, he put the Pack up 73-71 before Fresno State answered back with back-to-back buckets to go up 75-73 with 13.4 on the clock. With two Bulldog free throws made, Nevada trailed 77-73. Marshall took the inbound and drove the ball down the court, pulling up several feet short of the arc to hit a deep three and bring the Pack within one with just 5.6 seconds on the clock. Fresno State's Cullen Russo went to the line for two but missed both. The ball found Marshall again as time began to expire/ Dribbling down the court, he pulled up for another deep three, but this one wouldn't go as the Pack fell to the Bulldogs in a thriller, 77-76.
