Round two results
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - The Nevada men's golf team posted a drastic improvement in the second round of the Saint Mary's Invitational on Tuesday at Poppy Hills Golf Club.
The Wolf Pack began the day in a tie for 11th place in the 14-team field and rose all the way up to fifth with one round still to be played. Nevada went from a 303 team score in the opening round to a 290 on day two to help it jump six spots. The Pack trails San Diego State by 14 shots heading into Wednesday's final round. The Aztecs lead tournament host Saint Mary's by four strokes.
Nevada was led by a surging Grant Booth on Tuesday. Booth, who started the day tied for 63rd, jumped all the way up to ninth place. The Australia native shot a 4-under 67 for his second round, which was tied with one other competitor for the low round of the day. He improved from round one to round two by 11 strokes and had just one bogey on his scorecard. Booth's 67 on Tuesday is one shot shy of tying his career-low. Booth is at 3-over for the tournament and is eight shots back of individual leader Eduardo Carrete of Saint Mary's.
Elsewhere on the Pack roster, junior Kaleb Gorbahn saw improvements in his game as well. Gorbahn shot a 2-over 73 on Tuesday, three strokes better than his first round. He was pretty consistent with his round, making 15 pars and one birdie. Junior Corey Eddings and senior Nick Fuller matched rounds of 75 for a second straight day and are tied for 32nd in the 84-player field. Sophomore Travis Fredborg fought through a rough outing on Tuesday as two triple bogeys led him to an 81 and is tied for 71st.
