MINDEN, Nev. - Nevada quarterback Tyler Stewart will not play again this season due to a shoulder injury, head coach Brian Polian announced Monday at the Blitz Luncheon at the Carson Valley Inn.
Stewart, a senior from Simi Valley, Calif., was injured in Saturday's game against Wyoming. The injury will require surgery, which is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks, Polian said.
Sophomore Ty Gangi, who came off the bench and threw for 300 yards against Wyoming after Stewart's injury, has been elevated to the starting position. In his career at Nevada, Stewart completed 317 of 537 passes for 3,551 yards with 27 touchdowns against just 12 interceptions over 29 games. This year, Stewart started all eight games and completed 63 percent of his passes (110 of 174) with nine touchdowns against just three picks for 1,161 yards.
Nevada has a bye this weekend and will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 5 at New Mexico, in a game that will kick off at 7:15 p.m. PT on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.
