PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. - The Nevada men's golf team begin competition at its final tournament of the fall on Monday, the Saint Mary's Invitational at Poppy Hills Golf Club.
The Wolf Pack struggled through the first round, as did most teams. Of the 14 teams in the field, not one shot a score under par. Gonzaga and Fresno State posted the low team rounds of the afternoon at 6-over par. Nevada's 19-over 303 is tied with Toledo for 11th place.
The Pack recorded three eagles during its round, two of which came from sophomore Travis Fredborg, but had some trouble staying away from the "others." Fredborg's eagles came on No. 4 and 9 as he finished the front side at even par. He struggled on the back-9 however and carded a 6-over 77 to tie for 53rd.
Nevada's low round of the day came from junior Corey Eddings and senior Nick Fuller. Eddings birdied No. 4 and made 13 pars to shoot a 75, while Fuller made two birdies en route to his 75. They are both tied for 29th in the 84-player field. Junior Kaleb Gorbahn was the other member of the Pack to make an eagle, coming on the par 4 12th. Gorbahn shot 76 on Monday and is tied for 44th. Junior Grant Booth rounds out the list of Pack golfers and is tied for 63rd after carding a 7-over 78.
Eduardo Carrete of Saint Mary's and Tim Widing of San Francisco are tied atop the individual leaderboard at 2-under par. They were the only players in the field to shoot under par on Monday.
