Box Score Oct. 21, 2016 Final Stats
Nevada soccer fell short to Utah State 1-0, when the Aggies scored in the first half off of a rebound from a previous shot. Goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos made 10 saves within the 90 minutes, which ties her most saves in a game this season, the other match being against New Mexico. Quintos is now at 96 saves for the season. Going into the season, she ranked fourth in Nevada history for career saves with 195. Since then, Quintos has moved into second and is not far from breaking into the three hundreds.
The Aggies outshot the Wolf Pack 20-8. Maria Sanchez led the Pack taking two shots on goal, one in each half. Nevada stayed consistent between periods taking four shots in each period and Quintos making five saves in each period.
With about 10 minutes left in the first half, Nevada felt pressure from Utah State when the Aggies took three shot in the 34th minute. As Quintos deflected the second shot the ball rebounded and Utah State's leading goal scorer, Jessica Brooksby, managed to score the lone goal of the match.
In the second half, an opportunity arose for Nevada to tie the score when Angel Meriwether was fouled in the goal box and given a penalty kick. Meriwether's shot was a great attempt going for the low right corner, but Utah State goalkeeper Grace McGuire awed the crowd with an impressive save. This is the first PK of the season that Nevada was unsuccessful, making the team 3-4 in PKs.
Nevada heads back to Reno for its final two games of the regular season. The Pack plays Boise State on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m. in Mackay Stadium.
