RENO, Nev. - Nevada Wolf Pack volleyball (14-5, 5-2) defeated the Wyoming Cowgirls (12-8, 5) on the road Saturday afternoon in five sets 10-25, 27-25, 25-15, 16-25 and 15-3.
Junior Madison Foley led things for the Wolf Pack with 19 kills. Seniors Madison Morell (13) and Kathryn Groenweghe (11) also tallied up double digit kills as Morell continued her streak of more than 10 kills in every match this season. Groenweghe also recorded six blocks. Senior Lyndsey Anderson racked up her third double-double of the season with 37 assists and 13 digs. Senior libero Madison Thorpe fell just one dig short of tying her career high, putting up 18 on the afternoon.
Things got off to a Wyoming start as the Cowgirls defeated the Pack in set one 25-15, handing the momentum to the home team.
In a match that saw four lopsided sets, the second one stood out as the competitive one. With things knotted up at three, Nevada took a three point at 6-3, including one of Foley's many kills. The Pack held onto the lead until Wyoming tied it back up at nine. Things stayed close to the end as the set tied up again at 10, 11, 13, 15, 16, 18, 19 and 20. Nevada then saw its first set point at 24-22 before two quick Cowgirl points evened the teams at 24 a piece. With the set tied up at 25, a Foley kill and Wyoming error gave Nevada the set 27-25.
The final three sets were one sided as Nevada took the third set and Wyoming the fourth. With the match on the line, Nevada put things away with a 12 point victory in the fifth set to take the match 3-2. Nevada's 12 point margin of victory came off of 12 unanswered points to close the deciding set.
The Pack will finish up its road trip Monday night, taking on the San Diego State Aztecs at 5 p.m.
