RENO, Nev. - Nevada head coach Brian Polian has named former USC standout Jonathan Himebauch as the Wolf Pack's offensive line coach, the school announced Wednesday.
A former team captain and Rose Bowl champion at USC, Himebauch has been successful as an offensive line coach at nearly every level of football. Himebauch arrives to Reno after spending the past two seasons in the Canadian Football League. He's also made collegiate coaching stints at Wake Forest, San Diego State and UNLV. Cumulatively, Himebauch has worked as an offensive line coach in NCAA and CFL in the past 14 seasons.
"I am very excited about the addition of Jonathan Himebauch to our staff," Polian said. "Jonathan brings great experience as a former player at USC, and as a successful coach at the prep, college, and professional levels. I think he is going to be an effective teacher and an asset as a recruiter in Southern California. We are thrilled to welcome Jonathan, his wife, Jessica, and his sons, Walker and Tyler, to the Wolf Pack Family."
Most recently, Himebauch served as an offensive line and assistant head coach with the Toronto Argonauts during the 2015 season. The Argonauts posted a 10-8 record and advanced to the East Division semifinal last year. Himebauch was the offensive line coach and run game coordinator with the Edmonton Eskimos on the 2014 campaign. The Eskimos led the Western Division in yards per game and yards per rush while ranking second in rushing yards and points per game.
He won two Grey Cup championships with the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL, serving as their offensive line coach from 2009-11. The Alouettes won the Grey Cup in 2009 after leading the league in scoring before repeating as champions in 2010 after leading the CFL with 403 yards per game.
During his time in the CFL, Himebauch developed five All-CFL honorees, including two CFL Most Outstanding Lineman winners.
Himebauch's most recent NCAA stint was with Wake Forest as the Demon Deacon's offensive line coach from 2012-13. Under Himebauch's tutelage, Cory Helms earned Freshman All-American honors in 2013 after starting in 11 games at center. While at SDSU (2008-08), he coached five All-Mountain West lineman and helped develop Brandyn Dombrowski, who played five seasons with the San Diego Chargers, and Lance Louis, who currently plays for the Indianapolis Colts.
In 2005, he was the head coach at Harvard-Westlake High School in North Hollywood, Calif., which followed a season at UNLV (2004) and his first season in the CFL with Calgary in 2003.
Himebauch played college football at the University of Southern California and was a two-year starting center with the Trojans. He led USC to a pair of Pac-10 titles, the 1993 Freedom Bowl and victories in the 1995 Cotton Bowl and 1996 Rose Bowl. Himebauch was a co-captain as a senior and finished with 23 career starts. He also received the team's Howard Jones Alumni Award for boasting the team's highest cumulative GPA and the Bob Chandler Award for leadership and integrity.
Upon graduation, Himebauch went on to play professionally in the NFL, NFL Europe, CFL and XFL. Himebauch earned training camp appearances with the Arizona Cardinals in 1998 and the Kansas City Chiefs in 1999. Himebauch played one season in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts, advancing to the Eastern semi-finals in 1999. He also played in the inaugural XFL season in 2001 with the Los Angeles Xtreme. Himebauch played two seasons for the Rhein Fire in NFL Europe, earning all-league honors in 1999 and helping take the team to the World Bowl in 2002 before retiring.
Himebauch received a bachelor's degree in English from USC in 1998 before earning a master's in education from UNLV in 2002.
A native of San Dimas, Calif., Himebauch and his wife, Jessica, have two sons; Walker and Tyler.
