MORAGA, Calif. - A goal 37 seconds into the start of overtime allowed Saint Mary's to down the Nevada soccer team, 1-0 Sunday afternoon from Saint Mary's Stadium.
For the second time this weekend, the Wolf Pack (0-3-1) took its game into extra time with no goals on the scoreboard. Unfortunately for the Pack however, both UC Irvine on Friday and Saint Mary's today snuck one in between the pipes in overtime for the victories.
The Nevada offensive attack didn't get going until the second half as the team posted just one shot in the opening period. The defense and starting goalkeeper Kelsey Quintos stood tall though through the first 90 minutes, holding the Gaels to seven shot attempts and no goals.
Quickly into the first overtime period, SMC's Hannah Diaz took a low shot from 10 yards out that got past Quintos to score the game winner. With the win, Saint Mary's remains undefeated on the year, improving its record to 5-0-1.
Nevada collected four shots in the game, each taken by a different player. Quintos stopped a total of three shots and allowed the one goal.
Nevada will play one more on the road this Friday, Sept. 11 with a 5 p.m. contest at UC Davis, before returning home next Sunday. The Wolf Pack defeated the Aggies, 1-0, last season at Mackay Stadium.
