Box Score

BERKELEY, Calif. - Junior Madison Morell posted a team-high nine kills and classmate Kathryn Groenweghe hit at a career-high .333 clip but it wasn't enough as the Nevada volleyball team fell to Cal, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-19), in the Wolf Pack's first match of the season at the Molten Classic on Friday evening.

Junior Lyndsey Anderson was one block short of matching her career-high she set last season after registering three in the loss for the Pack (0-1, 0-0 MW).

After the Golden Bears claimed the first set, where sophomore Madison Foley had five of her seven kills, the two sides were neck-and-neck in the second as the Pack took advantage of multiple Cal errors and the score was 17-17. But the host Golden Bears proved to be too much as they pulled away to take the second set, 25-19, and a 2-0 lead in the match.

Nevada held Cal to a match-low .194 hitting percentage in the third set and held a four point lead, 12-8, after and error and kills from Groenweghe and Morell. Despite the improved defense, Cal came out on top in the set, 25-19, to complete the sweep.

The Pack will be back at it again tomorrow for the second and final day of the Molten Classic as it will take on Seattle at 12 p.m. and Eastern Washington at 4:30 p.m.
