RENO, Nev. – Former Nevada football standout Kevin Grimes will return to the Wolf Pack this season, joining Ryan Radtke in the radio booth on the Wolf Pack Radio Network. Grimes – a four-year letter winner and member of the 13-win 2010 team - will serve as a color analyst.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Ryan Radtke and Chris Vargas for many years and look forward to joining the radio broadcast team,” said Grimes, who tallied 179 career tackles at Nevada. “I’m excited for the opportunity to get involved with the Pack and be a voice in the community that I call home.”

The Wolf Pack Radio Network – owned and operated by Wolf Pack Sports Properties, the school’s multimedia rights holder – will carry every minute of Nevada football this season.

“We’re excited to welcome Kevin to the broadcast team,” said Andy McDowell, the General Manager of Wolf Pack Sports Properties. “As a former player, he has great knowledge of the game and was a key contributor on the famed 2010 team. Our fans will enjoy hearing his insights and perspective, and we look forward to him working alongside one of the best play-by-play announcers in the country.”

“We also would like to thank Chris Vargas for his dedication and professionalism to the broadcast over the years and we respect his desire to spend more time with his family.”

A four-year letter winner, Grimes played in 52 games with 179 tackles and 8.0 tackles for loss in his Wolf Pack career. Grimes was one of the team’s top high-motor players, as evident by winning the “Nevadatude” award in his senior season. Nevada went 34-19 overall, 23-9 in the WAC and went to four bowl games in the four years Grimes played.

Grimes’ best season was his last, as he ranked second on the team in tackles in 2010 while leading the Wolf Pack 13-1 record – its most wins in 24 years – and a victory in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl. Grimes played in all 14 games as a starting linebacker, notching 84 tackles, 5.5 TFL and 3.0 sacks. He won the team’s “Nevadatude” and “Fireman” award for his efforts.

Grimes also played in all 13 games as a junior in 2009, posting 25 tackles on defense and special teams. He played in the secondary as a sophomore and was seventh on the team with 45 tackles. Grimes was an academic All-WAC selection as a redshirt-freshman and won Nevada’s special teams’ player of the year award. In his first season at Nevada, Grimes redshirted in 2006 while being named scout team player of the year.

A native of Grass Valley, Calif., Grimes graduated from the University of Nevada in 2013 with a business degree in finance. Grimes was then hired by Wells Fargo Corporate Banking here in Reno.

Grimes and Radtke will have the call of Nevada’s season-opener on Thursday, Sept. 3, against UC Davis. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT at Mackay Stadium.
