RENO, Nev. - First year head coach Lee Nelson has announced the Nevada volleyball team's 2015 schedule that features four tournaments against non-conference opponents and its Mountain West slate. The Wolf Pack will host its own tournament, the Wolf Pack Classic, at the Virginia Street Gym from Sept. 11-12.
"This year's schedule is a great one," said Nelson. "We kick it off at Pac-12 power Cal before hosting a strong trio of teams at our own Wolf Pack Classic a couple of weeks later. The conference schedule looks tough and that's good, I think our squad is eager for the challenge that comes with being a part of the Mountain West."
After its first weekend in Berkeley, the Wolf Pack will travel to Portland to face-off against the Pilots, Portland State and UC Riverside before returning to Reno to host the Wolf Pack Classic. The Pack will wrap up the tournament season at the Sacramento State Invitational will it will face three strong opponents, most notably Santa Clara who is coming off a 2014 campaign where they went 22-10 and made an appearance in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.
Nevada starts off the Mountain West slate at Air Force on Sept. 24 and New Mexico on Sept. 26 before hosting the two of the conference's top teams from 2014 in Colorado State (Oct. 1, 6:30 p.m.) and Wyoming (Oct. 3, TBA). After another two-match road trip, Nevada will return for its longest homestand of 2015 with matches against Boise State (Oct. 15, 6:30 p.m.), Utah State (Oct. 17, 1 p.m.), the Lobos (Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m.) and the Falcons (Oct. 24, TBA).
Senior Night will be on Nov. 18 against San Jose State at 6:30 p.m. before the Pack travels to San Diego State for its final match of the season on Nov. 24.
Nelson enters his first season at the helm of the Nevada volleyball program after spending the last a strong three-year run as an assistant coach at the University of Miami where he helped lead the Hurricanes to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. He previously served as a Wolf Pack assistant coach in 1999 and received his Master's degree from Nevada in history.
