July 22, 2015 RENO, Nev. - A week after placing 80 student athletes on the All-Mountain West spring academic team, 53 University of Nevada athletes have earned the MW Scholar-Athlete Award as announced by the Conference office Wednesday. Last year 48 Wolf Pack student-athletes received the MW Scholar-Athlete Award.
A league-record 730 student-athletes were honored, including 53 individuals who have achieved a 4.00 or higher cumulative grade point average over two or more terms, and 48 student-athletes who were recognized in multiple sports. The 730 honorees surpass the previous Conference high of 662 in 2013-14.
To qualify as a scholar-athlete, a student-athlete must have completed at least two semesters or three quarters at the member institution, have compiled a cumulative grade-point average, at the member institution, of 3.5 or higher, and competed in at least one varsity contest in a Mountain West-sponsored sport during the 2013-14 academic year.
The women's track & field team led the Pack with 12 representatives with six of those athletes also earning the honor as members of the women's cross country team. The Wolf Pack women's swimming & diving team had 10 members receive recognition. Football (3), men's tennis (2), softball (3), women's basketball (4), women's golf (6), women's soccer (4), women's tennis (1), women's volleyball (5) and women's cross country (8) also had athletes honored with the MW Scholar-Athlete Award.
