Don Jackson has been selected to the watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy, the premier award for community service in college football, the National Selection Committee for the award announced on Wednesday.
Jackson, who is a leader in the Wolf Pack's community service efforts, ranked 10th in the Mountain West and second on the team last season with 957 rushing yards. The Sacramento, Calif., native posted five 100-yard rushing games including a season-high 132 yard effort in a win over UNLV on Nov. 29. With Jackson's help, Nevada finished the season ranked fifth in the conference with 205.5 rushing yards per game. His seven rushing touchdowns also ranked second on the squad.
Including Jackson, the MW has only four representatives on the list that features 80 student-athletes. It's Jackson's first recognition this preseason and the fifth watch list appearance for the Wolf Pack.
The Wuerffel Trophy, named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel, is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
