RENO, Nev. - After being named to the Nagurski Trophy Watch List late last week, senior defensive end
Ian Seau has been tabbed to the Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, the Lombardi Award Committee announced on Tuesday.
Seau's selection to the 2014 All-Mountain West Second Team fit the Watch List's criteria as it looked for student-athletes who last season earned All-America honors, were named to their respective all-conference teams or received 2015 preseason accolades.
The 2014 campaign saw Seau crack the top 10 of two program single season records. His 8.5 sacks ranks in a tie for ninth while his 10.5 tackles for loss sits in a tie for third on the single season chart behind Dontay Moch's two record-setting seasons in 2009 and 2010. The Oceanside, Calif., native also registered an interception that was returned 32 yards for a touchdown against Boise State on Oct. 4 and forced two fumbles.
Seau is one of 13 Mountain West players on the Lombardi Award Watch List. The winner of the award will be announced on Dec. 9 at the Bayou Music City Center in Houston, Texas.
