Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List
RENO, Nev. - Junior defensive end Ian Seau has been named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, the Football Writers Association of America announced on Friday. Seau is one of four players from the Mountain West listed on the watch list for the award, which is given annually to the best defensive player in the nation.
The Oceanside, Calif., native is coming off an 8.5 sack season in 2014, which ranked tied for ninth in Wolf Pack history. As a sophomore, Seau tallied 39 tackles, 10.5 TFL, 8.5 sacks, five passes defended, one interception and two fumble recoveries. Seau's 10.5 TFL also ranked tied for third in program history.
Seau played one season of junior college football at Grossmont College before transferring to Nevada. He made his debut as a sophomore in 2013 and registered 23 tackles on the year before posting a breakout season as a junior in 2014. Seau has been a consensus 2015 preseason first team All-MW selection, earning the distinction from Phil Steele, Athlon Sports, Lindy's Sports and Sporting News.
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch list consisted of four players from the MW and 88 players overall. The trophy will be revealed at the annual Bronko Nagurski Trophy Banquet on Dec. 7 in Charlotte, N.C.
