LAS VEGAS -- The University of Nevada (7-11, 1-2 MW) men's tennis team lost a close Governor's Series and Mountain West match 4-3 to intrastate rival UNLV (12-6, 2-1 MW) at the Fertitta Tennis Complex today. The Wolf Pack fell to 7-11 on the season and 1-2 in MW play while the Rebels improved to 12-6 and 2-1 in conference play.

Nevada concludes its three-match road swing at San Diego State (14-5, 2-1 MW) on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

"It was a tough fight with some very tight calls toward the end," head coach Eric Burton said. "Chargui came through well at #1 while #3 and #4 pulled out tough matches for the Pack but it wasn't enough. I think doubles really cost us in this match. Hats off to the Rebels they came through."

The match went back and forth with four lead changes before it came down to the #2 singles match with score tied at 3-3. UNLV's Denys Plume won the first set from the Pack's Andrew Poustie 7-5. Poustie tied it with a 7-5 second set victory but lost the deciding third set 6-1 as UNLV prevailed 4-3.

UNLV's Ace Matias and Adam Gage-Brown won the first completed doubles match 6-3 over Moez Chargui and Robert Allan in the #1 pairing. Jakob Amilon and Ruben Alberts won the #2 doubles 6-4 over Billy Bumgardner and Robert Margitfalvi to clinch the team point for the Rebels. Nevada trailed 5-3 in #3 doubles but the match went unfinished after UNLV had clinched the team point.

Nevada's Ryan Andrada scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Gage-Brown at #4 singles to tie the match at 1-1. Moez Chargui put the Pack in front 2-1 defeating Matias 6-4, 6-2 at #1 singles. Chargui's win was his 69th career victory at Nevada which moved him into a tie for third most in school history with Bryan McQuown (1978-81). Victor Ouvrard (2010-14) is second with 70 and Laurent Garcin (2007-10) holds the record with 72 career victories.

The Rebels won the next two completed matches at #6 and #5 singles to regain the lead 3-2. Alberts took the #6 singles from Mile Cilic in three sets 3-6, 6-3 and 6-1 to knot the score at two. Alexandr Cozbinov also won in three sets at #5 singles over Allan 3-6, 6-1 and 6-4 to give UNLV the one-point advantage.

Fernando Sunago's three-set 6-2, 4-6 and 6-4 victory at #4 singles over Amilon got the Pack even at 3-3. The fourth three-set match of the day was won by UNLV's Pume 7-5, 5-7 and 6-1 over Poustie earned the Rebels the win.
