PROVO, Utah -- Nicholas Smits closed with a 73 at Riverside Country Club and the Nevada men's golf team was eighth in the Ping Cougar Classic.
The tournament marked the final tuneup for the Wolf Pack before the Mountain West Championships the first week of May.
Smits tied for 19th with freshman Grant Booth a shot back and tied for 21st. Freshman Corey Eddings matched the 73 of Smits and he moved up to a tie for 28th. Freshman Jooho Lee and sophomore Nick Fuller tied for 30th as all five Nevada players were within three shots of each other.
Colorado State won the team race by eight strokes over Pacific with BYU a shot back of the Tigers in third place. Fresno State was fourth, followed by Southern Utah, Wyoming, Utah State and then Nevada.
