RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. -- The Nevada women's golf team closed with a 14-over 302 on Wednesday and took fifth place in the Mountain West Golf Championship on Monday at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club.

Sisters Caryn (a junior) and Celyn (a freshman) led the way for Nevada as they tied for 11th overall. Senior Nikki Prichard closed with a 76 and tied for 14th while Bethany Wurster tied for 24th, giving Nevada four players in the top 24 of the conference finish. Sophomore Jordan Keyser had the second-low round of the day for Nevada and her best round of the tournament with a 2-over 74 to tie for 32nd.

"We didn't finish how we wanted to but I am very proud of our team," coach Kathleen Takaishi said. "It was a fun week. Caryn and Jordan played solid today. It was great to see Jordan bounce back and post a good round today. We played some really good golf. I am very proud of this team and what they have accomplished this spring."

San Diego State won the tournament with a team score of 876. New Mexico took second after blistering the course with a 10-under 278 -- the lowest round of the tournament by 10 strokes. San Jose State was third and UNLV was fourth, just three strokes ahead of the Pack. That gives the Rebels three points in the Governor's Series, presented by NV Energy. The all-sport competition between the schools is now tied at 18-all with 12 points remaining.

UNM's Manon Molle fired a 67 on Wednesday and topped SDSU' Milagros Chaves in a playoff for medalist honors.

The conclusion of the tournament spells and end to the Wolf Pack's season, the second under Takaishi. Nevada endured an up-and-down fall schedule before getting things moving the right way in the spring.

The Wolf Pack improved steadily in the spring, culminating in the team's first win since 2006 two weeks ago at the Cowgirl Classic in Arizona and a spirited run this week at the conference tournament.

Prichard and Wurster saw their collegiate careers come to a close on Wednesday. The Wolf Pack signed three recruits in the fall and Takaishi indicated a further roster addition or two is coming as Nevada eyes for more improvement in 2015-16.
