RENO, Nev. -- Nevada women's basketball coach Jane Albright has announced the signing of Stephanie Schmid, a junior college transfer out of Arizona Western College.
"Stephanie is instant offense. She is a fundamental player who can change a game with her scoring," said Albright. "She is a great student and person and we are ecstatic to add her to our Wolf Pack family."
Schmid, who hails from Lake Zurich, Ill., totaled 1,056 points during her two years at Arizona Western, sinking more than 200 shots from three-point range. She was named the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) Player of the Year for the 2014-15 campaign. Adding to her accolades from this past season, the 5-10 guard earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) second team All-American honors and was a first team All-ACCAC and All-Region selection.
During her sophomore year, Schmid led the conference in scoring, averaging 20.8 points per game, and three-point percentage, knocking down 40.9 percent of her shots from downtown. She was the only NJCAA Division I player to average more than four made three's per game. Aside from her shooting abilities from long range, Schmid also ranked third in the nation in free throw percentage (90.4 percent).
Schmid improved game-by-game as a sophomore, scoring in double figures in 27 of her 31 games played. She also posted 20 games where she poured in at least 20 points and hit nine three's in a game early in the season against Spire Institute.
Schmid completes a five-member signing class for Albright and her coaching staff and will join the Wolf Pack in 2015-16 as a junior.
