RENO, Nev. - The Nevada softball team dropped a doubleheader to Idaho State, 4-1 in game one and 7-2 in game two, in its home opener at Hixson Park on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore McKenna Isenberg (0-8) tossed a complete game with three strikeouts in the first contest while freshman Chase Redington (3-6) also went the distance in her start in the second game for the Pack (4-18, 0-0 MW). Freshman Alyssa Mendez went 3-for-5 with three singles on the day to lead the Nevada offense.

Nevada got on the scoreboard first in the second game after junior Danielle Wiltz, who reached base on a walk, was sent home on a double from junior Jasmine Jenkins to put the Pack up 1-0. Jenkins went third on an error by the center fielder and later scored on a grounder from Megan Sweet to extend the lead to 2-0.

Redington got through the first and second innings unscathed but ran into trouble in the third inning where Idaho State pushed across four runs before the freshman gave up three more in the fourth. Redington kept the Bengal bats at bay for the remainder of the game but the Pack could not manage to score again.

After Idaho State pushed across a run in the top of the first on an RBI single, Isenberg settled down and blanked the Bengals for the next five innings while picking up three strikeouts to give herself 44 on the season, which ranks third in the Mountain West.

Freshman Aaliyah Gibson led off the bottom of the third with a triple to right-center field and was driven in on a groundball from Hopkins to put the Pack on the board and tie the game at 1-1.

Isenberg surrendered three runs in the top of the seventh but the Pack would not go quietly in the home half of the inning. With two outs, Hopkins singled up the middle and junior Danielle Wiltz followed with a bunt single before junior Jasmine Jenkins hit a sharp liner that was caught by the pitcher to end the game.

Nevada will be back in action for the final game of the home-opening series against the Bengals tomorrow at 12 p.m.
