RENO, Nev. - Trailing Sacramento State (7-9) 1-0 after the doubles matches the University of Nevada (5-7) men's tennis team swept the six singles matches to win its fourth consecutive match downing Sacramento State (7-9) 6-1 at Caughlin Club today. The Wolf Pack improved to 5-7 on the season while the Hornets dropped to 7-9.
After going 4-0 at home, Nevada takes to the road for two matches in California. The Pack plays at Stanford on Monday at noon and at California on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
Fernando Sunago earned the Pack's first point of the match with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Tom Miller in #3 singles. Sunago returned to the lineup after an injury to play his first home match of the season. Ryan Andrada downed Christopher Clayton 6-2, 6-1 in #4 singles and Nevada was in front to stay 2-1. Robert Allan swept the #5 singles 6-4, 6-3 over Joaquin Marquez. Robert Margitfalvi clinched the victory with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Ayman Abdulwahab in #6 singles.
Senior Moez Chargui kept it going with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at #1 singles over Roy Brandys. Chargui won his 66th match at Nevada which moved him into a tie with Wessim Derbel (2009-12) for fourth on the Pack's career list. Andrew Poustie completed the singles sweep with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Niranjan Ram.
In the doubles Sacramento State's Brandys and Miller defeated Allan and Chargui 6-3 in the #1 match. Clayton and Kasparas Zemaitelis took the #3 doubles 6-4 over Margitfalvi and Billy Bumgardner to clinch the doubles point. Poustie and Sunago were tied at 5-5 with Marquez and Abdulwahab when the match was stopped as the Hornets had clinched the doubles point.
