In game one, after being blanked in the first and second innings, sophomore
Raquel Martinez led off the bottom of the third inning with a triple to right-center field. Hopkins followed and reached on error that scored Martinez from third and gave Nevada an early 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, with one out and the bases loaded, junior
Amanda Weis made it 2-0 Pack on an RBI single through the left side that scored junior
Danielle Wiltz.
The Hornets responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third before an RBI double from senior
Karley Hopkins scored pinch runner
Hannah Harger and made it 3-2 Nevada in the top of the fourth. Sacramento State would tie the game for the second time in the bottom half the inning, 3-3, as a pitcher's duel ensued for the next three innings.
Isenberg worked 1-2-3 innings in the fifth and sixth and only allowed one baserunner in the bottom of the seventh before inducing a double play and a pop-up to Sweet that ended the inning.
With the international tiebreaker rule in play, both teams started each extra inning with a runner on second and each team plated a run in the eighth and ninth innings. Purcell picked up an RBI single that scored classmate
Aaliyah Gibson that put Nevada ahead 4-3 before an RBI single from Sweet made it 5-4. With the score at 5-5 in the top of the tenth and Weis on second, McWilliams delivered the game-winning hit with a double to the left field gap that scored Weis and put Nevada up for good, 6-5.
In game two, the Hornets struck first in the bottom of the first after scoring two runs on two hits to take an early 2-0 lead before tacking on another run the next frame to go up 3-0. In the top of the third, junior
Jasmine Jenkins reached on an error and later scored on an RBI double from Sweet that made it 3-1. Nevada made it a one run game on one swing of the bat from Butera that cut the Pack's deficit to 3-2.
Senior
Megan Dortch, who came on in place of starter
Chase Redington, blanked the Hornets in the bottom of the third before surrendering two runs in the home half of the fourth that put Sac State up 5-2.
The Pack will next travel to Sacramento State for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 18. Game one begins at 1 p.m. and game two is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
