RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (4-7) men's tennis team won its third consecutive match blanking Weber State (8-9) 7-0 on Monday afternoon at Caughlin Club. With the victory the Wolf Pack improved to 4-7 on the season while the Wildcats had their four-match win streak snapped and stand at 8-9 on the season.
Nevada concludes its four-match homestand on Friday when Sacramento State comes to Reno for a 1 p.m. match.
Nevada swept the three doubles matches to get the early 1-0 lead. Andrew Poustie and Ryan Andrada won easily 6-0 over Edward Chan and Dylan Hansel in #3 doubles. Robert Allan and Moez Chargui earned the doubles point with a 6-4 victory in #1 doubles over Stefan Cooper and Sanjay Goswami. Robert Margitfalvi and Billy Bumgardner completed with sweep with a 6-3 victory in #2 doubles defeating Todd Fought and Jakub Gewert.
Poustie kept it going with a dominating 6-0, 6-3 victory in #1 singles over Cooper and Nevada led the match 2-0. Mile Cilic pushed the lead to 3-0 downing Goswami 6-2, 6-4 in #5 singles. Allan clinched the win with his 6-3, 6-3 victory over Jack Yin in the #4 singles match and the Pack had the fourth point needed to secure the victory.
Charqui beat Gewert 6-1, 6-4 in #1 singles and Margitfalvi won #6 singles by a score of 4-6, 6-0, and 6-3 over Chan. Andrada rallied from a 3-6 first set loss to defeat Fought 7-6 (7-1), 1-0 (10-5) in #3 singles to keep the Wildcats scoreless.
