RENO, Nev. - The University of Nevada (3-7) men's tennis team knocked off Pacific (2-13) 6-1 at Caughlin Club on Sunday afternoon. The Wolf Pack improved to 3-7 on the season and 2-0 at home this season with the victory. The Tigers dropped to 2-13.
Nevada returns to the court on Tuesday when Weber State (8-8) comes to Reno. The match is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Caughlin Club.
The Pack split the first two doubles matches and it came down to the #3 match to decide the team point. Andrew Poustie and Ryan Andrada won 6-3 over Alex Hamilton and Bernardo Oliveira to secure the point.
Robert Allan and Moez Chargui won #1 doubles 6-4 over Miguel Diaz and Jose Chamba to give the Pack the early edge. The Tigers Marlan Brand and Daniel Alameh defeated Mile Cilic and Robert Margitfalvi 6-3 in #2 doubles to setup the deciding match for the team point at #3 doubles where the Pack prevailed.
Margitfalvi swept Oliveira 6-3, 6-1 in #6 singles to put the Pack up 2-0. Cilic dropped the first set to Ashwin Sharma 6-2 but won the next two sets 6-4, 6-0 and Nevada led 3-0. Poustie clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Hamilton at #2 singles.
Chamba earned the only point of the match for the Tigers downing Allan 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in #3 singles. Andrada won #4 singles 4-6, 6-3, and 1-0 taking the super tiebreaker 10-3 over Alameh. Moez Chargui also split the first two sets falling 4-6 before winning the second set tiebreaker 7-6 (7-1). In the super tiebreaker Chargui prevailed 10-6 to make the final score 6-1.
