TEMPE, Ariz. - After going 1-1 in its first day of action at the Kajikawa Classic, including a come-from-behind 6-4 win over defending Atlantic-10 champion Fordham, the Nevada softball team fell to North Carolina, 9-0, and Oregon State, 4-2.

In the loss to the Beavers, the Pack (1-3, 0-0 MW) saw a complete game performance from senior Megan Dortch, who tossed seven innings while striking out seven. Junior shortstop Megan Sweet went 3-for-4 and junior catcher Ashley Butera and freshman third baseman Alyssa Mendez each tallied their first home runs of 2015 in the 4-2 defeat.

After Oregon State posted two runs in the top of the third, Mendez lifted a pitch from Oregon State starter Melanie Dembinski in the bottom half of the third to right center for a solo home run that put Nevada on the scoreboard, 2-1.
The Beavers tacked on two more runs that extended their lead to three, 4-1, in the top of the fifth before another solo shot from Butera made it a 4-2 ball game. The Pack still trailed heading into the final frame as senior second baseman Karley Hopkins led the inning off with a walk before advancing to second on a wild pitch. Another wild pitch put Hopkins at third and an infield single from Sweet put the tying run on at first base, but the Pack could not push a run across as the next two Nevada batters popped up and struck out swinging to give Oregon State the win.
The Pack started off its first contest of the day against North Carolina with two runners on after a single from Hopkins and a walk drawn by center fielder Aaliyah Gibson. But the Nevada rally was deterred after Hopkins was thrown out at third base on a fielder's choice followed by back-to-back ground outs to end the inning.

After not allowing a Tar Heel to reach base through two innings, freshman pitcher Chase Redington allowed nine runs in the visiting half of the third, all unearned. Redington, who beat Fordham yesterday for her first collegiate victory, took the loss for the Pack.

Nevada will take on No. 2 Oregon tomorrow at 12 p.m. PT in its final game of the 2015 Kajikawa Classic.
