Megan Sweet who posted four RBI over the two games. Freshman pitcher
Chase Redington (1-0) threw a complete game and earned the win for Nevada in the win over the Rams.
After a scoreless first from both teams, Fordham struck first with a three run second inning. The Pack responded two innings later with a sacrifice fly from designated player
Amanda Weis that scored senior second baseman
Karley Hopkins and put Nevada on the scoreboard, 4-1.
Despite the three-run second inning, Redington remained poised and kept the Fordham bats at bay surrendering only one more run in the home half of the fourth before the Nevada bats came alive in the top of the seventh.
After back-to-back walks and a catcher's interference call that put three Nevada players on, Hopkins stepped to the plate and rocketed a bases-clearing double to the left centerfield gap to clear the bases and tie the score at 4-4. Hopkins' game-tying hit drove Fordham starter Michelle Daubman from the contest and she was replaced by Lauren Quense. Quense walked Gibson and threw a wild pitch that moved Hopkins to third before surrendering Weis' second sac fly of the game that scored Hopkins to extend the Nevada lead to 6-4.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh and Redington still in the circle, freshman
Alyssa Mendez snagged a liner for the second out and caught the runner leading off first base for the final out of the game.
In the second game of the day, Portland State jumped on Nevada early as they took a 2-0 lead. But the Pack clawed back and produced a four hit, four run home half that featured a two RBI double by Sweet and an RBI single from junior right fielder
Jasmine Jenkins. Nevada tacked on two more runs on an RBI triple from Gibson, who was later driven in on a groundout from Sweet.
The Pilots scored three runs in the third, three more in the fifth and a final run in the sixth before Jenkins drove home the final Nevada run of the evening on an RBI groundout. Sophomore
McKenna Isenberg took the loss for the Pack in the 9-7 defeat.
Nevada will be back in action tomorrow when they face North Carolina 12:45 p.m. PT and Oregon State at 7:30 p.m. PT.
