RENO, Nev. - The Nevada baseball team's perfect season continued Saturday afternoon at Peccole Park as the Wolf Pack (6-0, 2-0) defeated Fresno State (3-3, 0-2), 12-7. Nevada reached double figure scoring for the second time this season with nine hits and two home runs.

Head coach Jay Johnson's Wolf Pack are 6-0 for the first time since 1994 when the Pack won 41 games and claimed the Big West conference championship. Since Nevada began charting game-by-game results in 1974, no team has opened a season with seven consecutive victories.

After winning the series opener with a 10th inning walk-off home run, the Wolf Pack cruised to a victory in game two after opening a 6-2 lead in the third inning. Senior Kyle Hunt and junior Bryce Greager led Nevada with two hits and one home run apiece. Junior Sam Held earned the win on the mound in relief of starter Jordan Deitrich.

Nevada had its largest attendance at Peccole Park since 2007 for the second consecutive game as 1,458 fans were at hand to watch another victory.
"Today was a good effort from our club with a lot of guys contributing to the win again," said Johnson, who has posted a 19-6 record with Nevada at Peccole Park. "The crowd and environment that our fans are providing is awesome. We're looking forward to the series finale tomorrow."

Fresno State took an opening lead for the second straight game, plating a run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning. Greager, a native of Fountain Hills, Ariz., hit his second home run of the season - a two-run blast in the bottom of the second - to put Nevada ahead, 2-1. The Bulldogs tied the game in the following frame after consecutive doubles.

Nevada took the lead in the bottom of the third inning and never looked back. Hunt led off the inning with his first homer of the season, and Greager drove in two more runs on a hard-hit double to center field. Designated hitter Grant Fennell scored Greager later in the inning on a two-out single to left center, handing the Wolf Pack a 6-2 lead.

Deitrich, making his second start of the season, pitched 3.1 innings. The Graden Grove, Calif., native allowed two earned runs on six hits and now has a 2.89 ERA through two starts. Freshman Jojo Romero relieved Deitrich, posting one out before making way for Held.

The Wolf Pack added one run in the fourth, taking a 7-2 lead, as junior Ryan Howell hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly to score Hunt. Howell, a second basemen and transfer from Chabot College, has 10 RBI on the season with a team-best .474 batting average.

Fresno State plated two runs in the sixth on junior Taylor Ward's two-RBI double, but Nevada came roaring back in its bottom half of the inning to clinch the win. After freshman Cal Stevenson doubles and senior Kewby Meyer singled, the Bulldogs walked in four runs with the bases loaded. Senior catcher Jordan Devencenzi capped the damage with an RBI sac fly, pushing Nevada's lead to 12-4.

The Bulldogs plated two runs in the eighth before scoring one run in the ninth and loading the bases. With the game-tying run on deck, junior Adam Whitt tallied the game's final out to earn the save in relief of sophomore Evan McMahan.

Greager led the Wolf Pack bats with four RBI and two runs scored, while Hunt added one RBI and three runs. Howell tallied two RBI and two runs. For the second straight game, senior Austin Byler was walked three times and hit by a pitch. Assistant coach Dave Lawn used six pitchers to limit the Bulldogs, who entered the series leading the Mountain West in batting average.

The series finale between the Wolf Pack and Bulldogs is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT, Sunday at Peccole Park. The Wolf Pack will also play a mid-week game, traveling to Stanford. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. from Sunken Diamond in Stanford, Calif.
