The Wolf Pack (7-18, 3-11 MW) stormed back from being down by as many as 16 points in the second half and put itself in position to tie things up in the final minute of play. Midway through the second period a free throw by the Broncos (17-8, 9-5 MW) Shalen Shaw put her team ahead by 11 with just over 10 minutes remaining.
From there, Nevada used a 10-2 run over the next 2:30 to pull within three points of its opponent, down 45-42. Both teams went on a bit of a scoring drought over the next couple of minutes as BSU sunk baskets at 5:09 and 3:07 to stretch its lead back out to seven.
Nevada went to work in the final three minutes, scoring five of the last seven points of the game. Back-to-back layups inside by junior
Nyasha LeSure and senior
Aja Johnson pulled the Pack to within three once again. With 1:11 on the clock, sophomore
Ashlee Jones drew a foul call and hit the front end of a one-and-one to make it a two-point game.
On the other end of the floor, Boise State's missed jumper was rebounded by senior
Anna Cameron, giving possession back to Nevada with a chance to tie or take the lead with 35 ticks left. The ball was placed in the hands of senior
Emily Burns, whose jump shot from behind the free throw line for the tie was blocked by BSU's Camille Redmon. Needing to foul to regain possession, Nevada sent Boise State's Yaiza Rodriguez to the foul line for a pair. Rodriguez hit both, sealing the win for the Broncos.
The Pack produced one of its best shooting halves in the second period, hitting 13-of-27 for 48.1 percent, while the Broncos connected on just 24.1 percent (7-of-29) in the half. Statistically, most of the major categories fell pretty even by the time the final buzzer sounded but shots from long range proved to be the difference maker. Boise State struck for seven three-pointers in the game, while Nevada made just one from downtown.
Senior
Mimi Mungedi posted her ninth double-double of the season, and fourth in her last five games, with a team-high 13 points and 10 rebounds. Johnson fell one point shy of a double-double as well, totaling nine points and 10 boards and tied her career-high with four steals. Junior
Julia Shelbourn tied her season-high of six points and added six rebounds and two assists to her night.
