WBCA Release

ATLANTA, Ga. - University of Nevada women's basketball senior guard Kayla Reeves has been selected to participate in this year's Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) "So You Want to Be a Coach" program.

The program, which is in its 13th year, will be held in conjunction with the WBCA National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Each selected member will participate in a three-day workshop that will be held April 3-5. The participants will learn about recruiting, the administrative side to coaching, how to get hired, skill development, the importance of knowing the rules and how to balance work and life.

"Kayla is a true student of this great game and has great passion for it," head coach Jane Albright said. "She wants to be a coach and this will be great training for her. It is quite an honor to be accepted to this program and we are all very proud of her!"

Reeves, who is in her second year at Nevada, is one of 58 from around the nation, and from around all NCAA Divisions, to be selected for the program. She will join Boise State senior Deanna Weaver as the only two to be selected from the Mountain West. In order to be considered for selection, a candidate must have been nominated by their head coach and exhausted their final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution. Each candidate is selected based on academics, contributions to women's basketball on and off the court, professional résumé and a written recommendation from their head coach.

The objectives of the "So" program are to increase the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women's basketball, increase the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduce female basketball players to coaches and administrators, raise awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
