TUCSON, Ariz. - The 70th ranked University of Nevada (1-4) men's tennis team dropped its second match of the weekend 6-1 to #53 Tulane (8-1) on Sunday at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The Wolf Pack went 1-2 in three matches in Arizona over the weekend. The Pack defeated Arizona but lost to Northern Arizona and Tulane. Nevada is 1-4 on the season while the Tulane won for the fifth consecutive time to improve to 8-1.
Nevada plays at UC Davis at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. The match was rescheduled from earlier this season because of weather.
The Green Wave earned the doubles point winning the #2 and #3 matches. Tulane's #2 team of Constantin Schmitz and Sebastian Rey won 6-1 over Moez Chargui and Robert Allan. The #3 squad of Alex and Ian Van Cott won 6-3 over Billy Bumgardner and Robert Margitfalvi. The #1 doubles match went unfinished as Tulane had secured the point after the two wins.
The Pack's point came courtesy of Ryan Andrada who defeated Sebastian 6-2, 6-2 in #4 singles. The #1 singles match was a hard fought battle won by Tulane's Dominik Koepfer over Chargui 7-5, 4-6 and 10-3. Koepfer is ranked fifth in the nation.
Tulane won the other four singles matches to seal the 6-1 victory. Alex Van Cott won the #2 singles for the Green Wave over the Pack's Andrew Poustie 7-5, 7-6. Schmitz defeated Fernando Sunago 6-1, 6-1 in #3 singles. Chi-Shan Joe scored a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Allan in the #5 singles match. Ian Van Cott won a three set match from the Pack's Margitfalvi 6-2, 2-6 and 6-1.
