Stanford, Calif. - Facing a tough field in the first tournament of the spring semester, the Nevada women's golf team shot 300 in the first round of the Peg Barnhard Invitational on Saturday and sits in sixth place in a 12-team field heading into Sunday's final round at Stanford Golf Course.

"I'm very pleased with how we played today," said second-year coach Kathleen Takaishi. "We are paired with two very good teams tomorrow. It should be fun. We need to stick to our gameplan and hit fairways and take advantage of scoreable holes."

Nevada is 15 strokes backs of tournament-leading UC Davis going into the final round. Oregon is nine shots back after a 292 on the day. San Jose State and host Stanford are tied at third at 300. Nevada is five shots back of fifth-place Cal as the Bears shot 295 in the first round.

The Wolf Pack has three players in the top 22 heading into the final round as junior Caryn Khoo (tied-14th) carded a two-over 73 on Saturday. Freshman Celyn Khoo shot 74 and is tied for 18th. She's followed by seniors Nikki Prichard (75) and Bethany Wurster (78) and sophomore Jordan Keyser shot 81 on Saturday.
