TUCSON, Ariz. - The 70th ranked University of Nevada (1-3) men's tennis team earned its first dual victory of the season downing Arizona (5-6) 5-2 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center today. The Wolf Pack is 1-3 on the season while the Wildcats are 5-6 after having their four-match win streak snapped.
Nevada concludes its three-match road trip to Tucson, Ariz. against #53 Tulane (7-1) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Nevada earned the doubles point as the #1 pairing of Fernando Sunago and Andrew Poustie defeated Arizona's Sumeet Shinde and Naoki Takeda 6-3. The Pack's #2 doubles squad of Moez Chargui and Robert Allan clinched the point downing David Mushayev and Jason Jaruvang 6-4.
The Wolf Pack won four of the six singles matches to seal the 5-2 victory. Playing #2 singles Poustie defeated Shinde 7-5, 6-3. Sunago earned the victory in #3 singles 3-6, 7-6 and 6-4 over Jaruvang. In the #4 singles match Ryan Andrada swept Mushayev 6-4, 6-4. Robert Allan swept Shoki Kasahara 6-4, 6-2 in the #5 singles match.
Chargui lost a hard fought match at #1 singles 8-6, 7-5 to Arizona's Takeda. The #6 singles match went three sets before Robin Chou knocked off the Pack's Robert Margitfalvi 6-2, 4-6 and 6-4.
